Congratulations – WSSC’s Technology Receives 2021 Smart 50 Award

Congratulations to our client, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (“WSSC”), for recognition of its Water Main Replacement Planning (“WMR”) software tool as a 2021 Smart 50 Awards recipient.  The Smart 50 Awards recognize the 50 best examples of smart cities at work each year by highlighting specific projects with real municipal-scale results.  For more information, please visit https://fall.smartcitiesconnect.org/Smart50Awards/.

This software tool was co-developed with Optimatics LLC to leverage a cloud-based solution in the selection and prioritization process for linear asset replacement and to improve the efficiency of the WMR program.  The tool utilizes algorithms, intelligent automation, and the computational cloud to balance risk, cost, and hydraulic performance objectives.

Vasilios Peros structured, drafted and negotiated the co-development and license agreement between WSSC and Optimatics – addressing intellectual property ownership and royalties for WSSC.

WSSC is one of the largest water and wastewater utilities in the United States, serving over 1.8 million residents across a 1,000 square mile area.
